On 26th February 2025, a training session on Self-Help Group (SHG) management was conducted under the project EHSAS for animators at Saharsa, Bihar. The session began at 9:30 a.m. with a prayer, followed by a warm welcome by Kuldeep, who introduced the resource person and the participants. Oliva SCN, the resource person, shared her vast experience in social work, particularly in SHG formation and management. She invited participants to introduce themselves and share their experiences in social work, which helped set the stage for an interactive and insightful session.

Oliva covered the process of forming SHGs, emphasizing the importance of selecting the right village, building relationships, and discussing the benefits of SHGs. She also addressed challenges faced in forming groups, such as lack of awareness, difficulties in selecting effective leaders, and social barriers. The participants learned that successful SHGs should consist of 15 to 20 members from similar socio-economic backgrounds. Oliva’s detailed explanation and experience motivated the animators, and the session provided valuable insights into SHG management that many participants had not previously understood.

Outcomes of the Training:

  • The animators gained a deeper understanding of the process involved in forming and managing SHGs.
  • Participants were equipped with knowledge about overcoming challenges such as lack of awareness and social barriers.
  • The training motivated the animators to apply the learned concepts in their communities, leading to stronger and more effective SHGs.
