On 27th February 2025, a one-day training program was organized for SHG leaders under the project EHSAS at Saharsa, Bihar. There were 35 participants from various SHGs across different villages. Oliva SCN, the resource person, initiated the program by introducing herself and engaging the participants in a discussion about the reasons they joined SHGs and the benefits they expected. The training focused on understanding the causes of poverty, including early marriages, loss of earning members, and lack of education, as well as the benefits that SHGs bring, such as low-interest loans, income generation, and mutual support.
Oliva highlighted the importance of SHGs in providing opportunities for self-employment, entrepreneurship, and skill development. She also discussed how SHGs contribute to social empowerment, women’s financial independence, and improved living standards. The leaders actively participated in the session, sharing their challenges and views on how SHGs can address poverty in their communities. The training was received with enthusiasm, and the SHG leaders expressed their readiness to implement the knowledge gained in their groups.
Outcomes of the Training:
- SHG leaders gained a comprehensive understanding of the causes of poverty and the multifaceted benefits of SHGs.
